I am usually spontaneous but decided to be a bit adventurous a few months ago and go kayaking for the very first time. I definitely expected to die lol but I had the most amazing, fear crushing time of my life . From the moment I arrived at the park , all the staff were so so friendly and welcoming. There is a sign in desk right at the entry where you are fitted for a life jacket and must sign a waiver . Immediately after, you are taken to meet your instructors for your time slot and must take a mini safety class. Then it’s off to the water . Y’all I was SSSSOOOO scared because I don’t know how to swim BUT big shout out to Sandra and the other young man that day( can’t remember his name but he definitely helped me through the whole experience) . I was able to paddle away, hyperventilated lol, paddled back, paddled away AGAIN, and finally was able to relax and explore the river :). It was soooo beautiful , a must do for the summer . 10 out of 10 experience!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND
—Arriving at least 30- 60 mins before your scheduled session, as this is a free and popular event
—The easiest way to Starlight Park is the 6 train to Whitlock stop and walk from there (This place can be a bit difficult to find from the other trains stations and bus stops. use digital maps for guide)

This was such an amazing and fun experience. The staff were so friendly and were with us the whole ride. There would be one staff at the front and one staff at the back to make sure we're safe or if we got stuck. I would do this again for sure! Look out for the upper river paddle openings.

Bronx river alliance they are a bunch of great people. Is just sad that to many idiot And ignorant people throw electric bikes and scooters into the river Instead of mayor making a big deal on trash cans. He should advertise and promote more youth summer jobs to help clean and be more educated on how to take care of nature
